Kimberly Drew is a taste-maker in the art world who has been exposing Afro art with her blog “Black Contemporary Art” since 2011. She now has an Instagram account @museummammy with over 100,000 followers. The work that she personally curates may not otherwise be exposed and she has given black artists an audience that they may not have had otherwise. Thanks to her platform and others like hers the art world is gradually becoming more inclusive.
She also is not afraid to share a controversial opinion as a firm supporter of the black lives matter movement. In an interview with Fusion Lightworks she has this to say about sharing her opinion on social media,
I’ve never been shy about expressing what I like or dislike. Now with the aid of digital technology my two cents can travel the world in record time. With this in mind, I’m very cognizant of my role as a key opinion leader. It’s a powerful role that comes with a lot of responsibility. I take social media very seriously and in a digital space than can both inform and affirm — I dedicate myself to being a purveyor of beauty.
There's not enough platforms where the accomplishments, the joy and positive contributions to society women of color put forward are celebrated, so we created ADELPHEE. If I am not sharing black girl magic on ADELPHEE you can find me on blacknaps.org where I share natural hair care advice and tips.
